I have spent more than twenty years in elevated beauty, most of it standing at a counter in South Florida, talking with people about their skin, their scent, and the version of themselves they are trying to get back to.
What I do is translate. Brands write for the lab. People arrive with the language they have, which is usually a feeling: tight, dull, too much, not like me anymore. The job is to hear the feeling and hand back something that works, in words they already own.
